Cassandra writes about Mesa ...
My mother and father always wanted to enjoy their retirement in Arizona ever since they made their first trip out to the land of sunshine and mountains. We lost my father before they were able to make their move, but Mom still wanted Arizona. Mom is only in her 60's and is more active than both my husband and I put together. Mom and Dad had spent many a Saturday afternoon browsing gorgeous estate homes in Las Sendas, Mesa.
After searching all the possibilities before her, she settled on Mesa. It was large enough to offer all the city comforts, amenities, activities, healthcare, and busyness that she was used to, and still desired, but offered palm trees, cacti, and flowering deserts; which she never got in her home state.
Mesa felt welcoming and mysterious. How many places can you find to live that boast having the Superstition Mountains and more golf courses than you can play in a month! We like to visit her because she's only a fifteen minute drive from Phoenix, which is so convenient for our air travel.
Each time we have visited, we have found something new for the family to see or do, whether its amusement park fun, an art museum for youth, or roller skating in the sunshine. We look forward to whenever our trips can take us to Mesa. We have seen the Chicago Cubs in training, attended Mesa's annual Independence Day celebration, and admired the botanical gardens in full bloom.
Mesa offers a mix of options allowing mom to find volunteer opportunities that take advantage of her enthusiasm and desire for making a difference, plenty of places to walk and shop, and restaurants that treat her like family. When we can't be there, we're glad mom has found a home and a community to love.
