My family and I moved to Gilbert last fall leaving the dreary English weather behind for good. A small family, just my husband, myself and our daughter, we needed a town that offered plenty to do and see but with a strong community and welcoming people. Gilbert was my first choice.
Last Halloween I threw a modest get together for a few new friends, more for my 3 year old's enjoyment than my own. This year there's so much going on in Gilbert we're spoiled for choice. Gilbert is staging its own Halloween and music festival this year and we've found discount tickets online. Parking is free and under 3's go free! The festival is being held Halloween weekend, runs till 10pm at night and has a main music stage this year. The music stage presents 4 popular bands Chevellon; The Fabulous Decades; KC Blues Band and headlining the event The Elements, Arizona's premium rock cover band. The community stage is a great place to watch your kids perform.
This year my daughter took part in her nursery schools Rock School Band production. For the older children there are dance performances. The children's stage is the star of the show for me. Amy loves the puppet shows and the balloon animals. There's a stingray aquarium, a game truck and Mission 2 Laser Tag for families with older children. Every year people rent stalls to sell bonfire cake, toffee apples and parkin. This year I'm adding my own contribution from across the seas, my grandmother's English parkin recipe. My husband recently received a contract change that brought us from London, UK to Gilbert, Arizona. I was hesitant to relocate to a new place and very concerned about adapting to a new environment with new people and different cultural environment.
All my tension vanished once I started setting up our new home in Gilbert. Living in a really safe neighbourhood and with good community services it was very easy to accept this new home. Attending these get-togethers helped me to learn new culture and I made few very good friends with whom I organize various events and enjoy sightseeing trips to aquatic center, mountain hiking, bike riding and shopping.
